Savings Accounts

Regular Shares

Every member of the Credit Union must own at least one $25.00 share of the Credit Union. This allows you to use all the services of the Credit Union. At the same time, we pay you a dividend each quarter for the use of your money. If you have less than $1,000.00 to deposit, this is the best place to put your money. Your Regular Shares account gives you unlimited access to your funds. You may withdraw money at any teller window or ATM, or transfer money to another account.

Freedom Shares

Members aged 16-24 who participate in our Freedom Program are eligible to open a Freedom Shares account that pays certificate-of-deposit rates without charging early withdrawal penalties. Freedom Shares accounts are a great way to earn extra interest on money that is put away for the long term.

Secondary Shares / Club Account

This account pays the same dividend as a Regular Shares account. It does, however, allow you to keep funds separate when you want to save for something specific, such as Christmas, taxes, college, or vacation.

Money Market Account

When depositing more than $1,000.00, the Money Market Account is a great place to keep your money. You earn high Money Market rates and interest is paid monthly. This account has some restrictions. For example, you can only make a maximum of six withdrawals per month, either electronic or by writing checks.

The Money Market Account gives you immediate access to your money, and as long as you keep at least $1,000.00 in the account, you'll earn high money market rates. If you drop below $1,000.00, the interest rate will be the same as Regular Shares accounts earn. A monthly service fee will be charged if you drop below $100.00.

Certificate of Deposits (CDs)

A Certificate of Deposit may be purchased with as little as $1,000.00. CDs pay higher interest rates for terms of 6 or 9 months, and 1-5 years. With a Certificate of Deposit, you're actually loaning us money for a fixed term. In return, we pay interest for the use of your money. We rely on the money to be in the account for the specified term, so if you withdraw the money before the term matures, an early withdrawal penalty will be applied.

Depending on the market there are usually some great rates on our CDs. We've traditionally paid a much higher rate than most financial institutions.

Individual Retirement Account (IRAs)

TransWest offers two types of IRA accounts - a ROTH IRA (no taxes on earnings) or a traditional IRA (tax deductions on contributions). A minimum balance of $100 on IRA shares/accumulator and $1,000 on IRA certificates is required. If you're looking to rollover a 401K and/or invest in a retirment account that can be tax deductible or one with non-taxed interest, an IRA account is an excellent solution.

All of our deposit accounts are insured to $250,000 by the NCUA, an agency of the Federal Government.
